In the predominantly Catholic region of Flores, Indonesia, gender-based violence (GBV) persists as a structural phenomenon embedded at the intersection of patriarchal power, customary (adat) traditions, and theological discourse. Applying the frameworks of Michel Foucault, Judith Butler, and the feminist theology of Elisabeth Fiorenza, it becomes evident how these religious and patriarchal formations sustain systemic inequality. TRUK-F (Team of Volunteers for Humanity in Flores) serves as a vital counter-hegemonic actor in this landscape, reframing violence from a private domestic issue to a fundamental human rights violation. Through survivor-centered justice TRUK-F advocates for a reconstructive public theology --rooted in relational dignity and structural accountability--as essential approach to dismantling the institutionalized power structures that allow gender-based violence to persist.
